A permanent fixture of the Falls Road for nearly 90 years has been The Rock Bar, with its original solid-looking front. The bar was built by the O’Neill family way back in 1901, the same year that the City Hall was built. My lifelong friend Frank O’Neill, one of the present owners, was telling me the interesting anecdote that during the building of the City hall the stone workers there went on strike. While they were on strike, the O’Neill family employed some of them to complete the stonework inside the public bar.
