Formerly called The Club Bar and in the Agnew Family for generations, this pub is now owned by Bass Ireland.
The first impression here is that you are walking into a restaurant rather than a bar. Probably the designer had ‘the American Diner’ look in his mind when he planned it. The menu here is full of American food dishes like “Texas Chilli”, “Philadelphia Sandwich” and of course a wide selection of “All American” burgers. The Elms is divided into two rooms, the first one, the restaurant with its wooden pillars and brick dividers and a largish room at the rear with a space for a group between the two. Original street names adorn the wall, names like “Upper Meenan Street”, “Claremont Street”, “Ashburne Street”, “Trillick Street” and “Marshall Street”, which I am sure will bring back nostalgic memories for a few customers.
By the way, few people are aware that the very first Trade Mark to be registered in the world is associated with the Red Triangle of Bass Charrington. It happened in 1875 when Registration became compulsory and to ensure that it was the first entry in the register, a staff member of Bass actually spent the night on the steps of the Registry Office.
