Situated right in the heart of Glengormley village, this is a comparatively new Bar, the licence being granted in 1980 to husband and wife team, Davy and Joan Magill.
You could easily miss this bar, which is situated close to the crossroads. The front could be more attractive and enticing, but don’t let my observations put you off, for you will find the interior large, spacious, and very pleasant indeed. As you enter this large olde worlde bar, you are greeted by a large illuminated panel, consisting of 11 pictures of old Glengormley. There are more pictures of Glengormley adorning the walls, and I particularly liked the illuminated stained glass above the main bar counter. Adjoining the main Bar cum Grill Room, is a self-contained function room (The Oak Room), suitable for weddings and functions.
Davy comes from a fine sporting family. His father and uncle were Irish Amateur Boxing Champions, while Davy himself was a fine athlete, so I wasn’t really surprised to see his fine collection of sporting memorabilia (acquired from BBC’s Children in Need programme), like Dennis Taylor’s snooker cue, Barry McGuigan’s boxing gloves, Northern Ireland v. West Germany Match football, and finally, Pat Jennings’ goalkeeper’s gloves.
This is a civilised and unpretentious bar, with a good welcoming atmosphere.
