Stewartstown Road, Dunmurry, Belfast BT17 0AW
This is a new Licence granted in 1984 to Laurence Catney (brother of Pat whom we will meet at the Kitchen Bar). It’s very much a large open plan Bar with a high roof divided into different sections. The snooker section is to the left, the darts on the right whilst in the middle is the large Bar itself. On the other side of the bar area is the lounge where traditional Folk music sessions are held every Friday and Saturday Night.
Pride of place high up in the very heart of the Bar is a large clock. You might recognise it for it stood as long as I can remember outside the Falls Road baths.
THERE IS NOTHING THE MATTER WITH ME.
There is nothing the matter with me. I’m as happy as I can be. I’ve arthritis in my knees. When I talk I talk with a wheeze; My pulse is weak and my blood is thin, But I’m awfully well for the shape I’m in.
Arch supports I have for my feet. Or I wouldn’t be able to be on the street; Sleep is denied me night after night But every morning I find I’m all right But my memory is failing my head’s in a spin, But I’m awfully well for the shape I’m in.
How do I know that my youth is all spent? Well my ‘get up and go’ has got up and went. But I really don’t mind when I think with a grin Of all the grand places my ‘get up’ has bin. Old age is golden I’ve heard it said, but sometimes I wonder as I get to bed With my ears in a drawer, my teeth in a cup, My eyes on the table until I get up.
Ere sleep comes over me I say to myself Is there anything else I should lay on the shelf? I get up each morning and dust off my wits Pick up the papers and read the ‘Obits’, If my name is still missing I know I’m not dead, So I get a good breakfast and go back to bed.
