It seems like only this morning we were talking about The Playwright and its £1.5 million refurbishment.

Well, it now seems the pubs operators have put a request to Belfast City Council to convert it to apartments. – If there’s one thing Belfast needs is more empty apartments, so the people who don’t buy them can enjoy the nightlife that was demolished so they couldn’t live there.

Playwrights was seemingly a costly experiment, but thanks to Belfasts Cromwellian drinking laws, the license alone will reach a handsome amount that will go some way in recouping the refurb costs.

We still think it would have been better just to keep the original Fly rather than continue to throw money at it – but what do we know?
