The men who are most vocal about being feminists are almost invariably feminists in the same way that Jimmy Savile was a children's entertainer.

I used to go to pub on a Friday night. Nowadays I I used to go to pub on a Friday night.

Nowadays I'm copying the index of a 31 year old book about pubs into an excel spreadsheet so I can check to see if the pub still exists, or has been renamed.

It's Rock and roll
I miss the pub The Central 2015 I miss the pub

Came across this while scanning pubs of the North. Came across this while scanning pubs of the North.

Bought another copy of JJ Tohills pubs of the Nort Bought another copy of JJ Tohills pubs of the North so I could do 'Destructive Scanning' so far the results are really good and OCR is working well.

As much as I hate destroying a book, particularly one that is a rare small press and niche. I feel it needs to be preserved because it is fascinating look at normality in Northern Ireland during a time when it was anything but normal.

Belfast - Rock Bottom ( 2010) Rock Bottom opened Belfast - Rock Bottom ( 2010)

Rock Bottom opened in 92 it was intended as a replacement to Ziggy's bar which was destroyed by IRA fire bomb in 1990/91.

As the name suggests it was a basement rock bar, down a flight of stairs with the bar along the left hand side as you walked in, it was all brick and metal, with a Harley tucked into a recess in one of the many cubby holes .

It was a pretty decent, comfy bar let down by arsehole bouncers (not letting people in who wore leather jackets or had visible tattoos).

Towards the end of its life it suffered from intermittent opening times, and an increasingly draconian door policy. It finally closed with a whimper sometime in the mid 90s.

It was rumoured it was to become a wine bar or it was to be filled with cement  to stop the building sinking into the Blackstaff river than ran beneath it.

But really, it was killed because the owners didn't care.

I think it's crazy that a bar as popular as Robinson's has a sizeable fully fitted bar beneath which has been lying empty for over 20 years.

For once there is video of the interior, because MTV interviewed Slayer in the bar during the Divine intervention tour.
