Announced on the twentieth anniversary of the closure of Vaux, a local artist has been commissioned to make a dray and horses sculpture for the former brewery site. Bigger than life size it promises to be a focal point for the regenerated Vaux site.

As you can probably tell by the sheer number of Vaux posts,  the brewery was very close to my heart. When I first moved to Sunderland I always remember the smell of weetabix on brew day and the dray and horses going around the local ale houses delivering beer. There was something ‘traditional’ about it all. It seems fitting that the brewing history of Sunderland should be remembered with the commission of a Dray and Horse statue.
